Common Questions
What is a coat of arms?
A coat of arms is a unique heraldic design belonging to an individual, family, or institution. It typically includes a shield with distinctive colours and symbols, and may include additional elements such as a crest, motto, and supporters.
Can I design my own coat of arms?
While you may indicate design preferences and meaningful symbols, the Institute's heraldic designers ensure that all arms conform to proper heraldic practice and are unique within the Roll of Arms.
How long does the process take?
A grant of arms typically takes 2-4 months from petition to completion, depending on the complexity of the design and any revisions required. Registration of existing arms is usually completed within 2-4 weeks.
Are arms hereditary?
Yes, personal arms granted in Kaharagia descend to legitimate descendants according to the rules of Kaharagian heraldry. The Institute can advise on matters of heraldic inheritance.
